Information about the Holiday House in Hampshire, England

Holiday in Brockenhurst: Brockenhurst boasts a delightful variety of pubs and restaurants to suit any pocket, style and appetite, so have fun in exploring its gourmet delights. Brockenhurst railway station is on the main line between Bournemouth and London via Southampton Airport. A car is scarcely needed. There is an excellent bicycle hire service and we can arrange forest rides on horseback and riding instruction. There is an excellent golf course within a mile and sailing at Lyminton, about four miles away.

Sporting Activities: There are several riding stables in Brockenhurst and some guests stay, year after year, to ride in the forest over miles of woodland trails.
There is a first class golf course and you will be made very welcome there.
You can hire a boat in Lymington and sail or motor-cruise on the Solent.
You can hire a bicycle and roam over miles of forest paths.
Bird and wild life watching is excellent and local to Ashtree House: not just the New Forest ponies and the cattle and pigs that are grazed in the Forest, but deer and birds of prey. Bring your binoculars and camera!
Oh, yes, and you can walk. For miles and miles and miles in the ancient forest first enclosed by King William, Duke of Normandy.

History and Culture: William, Duke of Normandy started it. Having taken England in 1066 from King Harold II the Saxon, Earl Godwin - Godwinscroft is nearby - William enclosed a deer forest for his hunting: the new forest. His successor, King William Rufus was killed while hunting: a possible regicide.
For history of a more recent date, visit Buckler's Hard, where ships were built for Queen Elizabeth's navy (the first Queen Elizabeth, of course). And both Lord Montague's grand 18th century house and the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu are well worth a visit, too. To bring you relatively up to date, visit Broadlands, the house of Admiral Lord Mountbatten of Burma.
But its not all history - there are wonderful gardens in the Forest and nearby, rich in rhododendrons and azaleas: Exbury and Furzey in the Forest and Hilliers nearby. Bournmouth has a fine Orchestra and theatres can be found both there and in Southampton. And often the village of Brockenhurst has concerts, plays and art exhibitions.
