17th century Lake District cottage in Gosforth, Cumbria - Potters Barn and Well Cottage are two self contained properties within Hardingill House, a seventeenth century farmhouse, at the northern end of the village of Gosforth. This village is the gateway to Wasdale and Eskdale and also stands at the western end of the Hardknott and Wrynose Passes. There is good access to the whole of the western fells and the central lakes.
Well Cottage is a 17th Century stone cottage, the earliest part of Hardingill House, an old Cumbrian farmhouse. The Barn of Hardingill House is a working pottery.
Well Cottage will accommodate up to five/six people. Children are welcome and we can supply a cot. Pets are welcome by prior arrangement.
On the ground floor it has an entrance hall, kitchen/dining room, sitting room, bathroom and bedroom for one person.
The sitting room has a southern aspect and is a lovely sunny room with a door to the patio and garden. It is equiped with a television and video and the settee is a sofa-bed.
A bedroom for one person is on the ground floor. On the first floor there are two bedrooms. One is a double room, and has an ensuite bathroom with shower, washbasin and toilet. The second has twin beds and also has its own washbasin and toilet. All bed linen is provided but please bring your own towels. We can supply towels by arrangement.

The village centre from the cottage is within five mins walking distance and has a small group of shops and pubs. The sea is about two miles from Gosforth and at low tide there are clean beaches with expanses of sand on which to play and walk.

Holiday in Gosforth, Lake District: Gosforth is a pleasant village in the Lake District National Park situated between the hills and the sea in the west of Cumbria, which often has a much warmer and drier climate than the rest of the Lake District. From the north Gosforth is the gateway to Wasdale and Eskdale, the former with its beautiful quiet lake and breathtaking views of Great Gable and Scafell. Potters Barn is ideally situated for walkers, with the whole of the quieter western valleys close by and the great central fells in Wasdale and Eskdale. The area around Gosforth also has a good range of eating places for anyone who does not want to cook while on holiday, and bread and milk can be ordered for your arrival by arrangement. Potters Barn and Well Cottage are available throughout the year. Short breaks can be arranged other than at peak times. All weekly lets are from saturday to saturday. The flat is available from 4.00 pm on the day of your arrival and we ask you to depart by 10.30 am on your final day, please leave everything clean and orderly, so that it can be prepared for the next arrivals.
Your deposit secures your holiday, and payment for this can be made by cheque to Potters Barn or card. We do take the majority of cards please contact us to check. Payment for the remainder must be made six weeks before you are due to arrive. If you are unable to take your holiday we will return your deposit or the full payment less 10% of the price of the week booked, only if we are able to re let the flat for that week. We can offer you a Holiday Insurance as recommended by Cumbria Tourist Board.
