Holiday apartment in Tornavacas, Caceres, Extremadura - The rural apartments "Tía Josefa" fulfil the idea and wish of the owner María Dolores Buendicha to rehabilitate and conserve the flat of her aunt Josefa. Her criterions were maintain and restore the private rooms of the tradicional flat assignig them to the new use as a rural accomodation. The building consists of the union of two consecutive flats, with a facade overlooking to the Real de Arriba street. The other facade is situated at the rear of the house, later than the orchard. The two constructions are belong to the dominating type in Tornavacas, of the "casa de entremado" amongst middle class people with a narrow facade, pronounced bottom, walls of masonry and ashlar in facades for the ground and the first floor and walls of "entremado" for the second floor and the loft. The facades and the rooves were rehabilated preparing the interior without modify the constructed volumen and the exterior holes of facades. Neither was the structure modified, including stairs. Even though the zone of separation between the front and the back flat was recovered as a covered and aired patio (according to the present prolongation of the skirts of the roof),lowering the level to achieve the lighting and the ventilation of the wine cellar of the ground floor. With respect to the distribution the main part of the original space was conserved.

Notes: Our accommodation in Tornavacas offer 3 rural apartments with a wine cellar-hall as a communal room. The apartments offer 14 sleeps in total according to the following distribution: on the ground floor there is a tradtitional patio with a reception, the wine cellar converted to a big hall of communalm use and a small services. On the first floor you can fint the apartment "El Torreón" which consists of living room-dining room-kitchen, double room and bathroom, with option of extra bed. On the first floor of the back house, we have the apartment "Peña negra" which consists of dining room-kitchen with fireplace, living room, two double rooms, two bathrooms and the option of 4 extra beds.
On the second floor you can find the apartment "Castifrío" which consists of living room-dining room-kitchen, double room, overhead cupboard, bathroom and option of 2 extra beds.
The house has central heating.

How to get to Tornavacas: The village of Tornavacas is crossed by its main street (old string or vía pecuaria - in Spain is very common to find big "vias pecuarias" across the countryside used by shepherds for hundreds of years) Calle Real. The apartments "Tía Josefa" are situated in the high part of the village in the Calle Real de Arriba. To reach it you have to enter the center of the village, the square of the church and turn right on the Calle Real de Arriba. You have to cross a small bridge and after leaving some houses with arcades, at the right side of the pavement you can find our accomodation.
