Holiday House in Manacor, East Mallorca:

Holiday house in Manacor, Mallorca - The old Es Rafalet houses, dating from the 18th century, are located on the eastern side of the island, between Manacor and the beaches of Son Serra de la Marina.
Situated on a small hill overlooking a valley with a wonderful landscape, this family farm setting gives the houses a typical Mediterranean flavour. The property is set in a large 110 hectare estate. The land has always been farmed, and the property has plots set aside for sheep rearing, almond, carob and olive trees, etc. In addition, remains of a Talayotic village can be enjoyed nearby.
Ses Cases d’ Es Rafalet, due to its geographical situation, its peaceful setting and comfort, is a favourite spot for lovers of nature and tranquillity.
The owners of the property have lived there now for over 50 years, devoting themselves almost exclusively to its upkeep, to maintaining the beauty of its gardens and its characteristic pastoral and Mallorcan flavour.
The beauty and simplicity of its countryside setting means one can enjoy a spot which is characteristic and typical of the heart of the island.

Nearby the Holiday House in Manacor, East Mallorca

For centuries, the Manacor economy was based on agriculture, and many windmills were built in the area; some remain, and these can be seen from the road. This continued until the 20th century, when a flourishing furniture industry developed, and the beaches became a great attraction for the newly established tourist industry. Nor should we forget its most recent activity: the manufacturing of artificial pearls. The dominant activities are tourism, property business, complementary services, dry farming – especially almond growing – and finally, industry, especially the manufacture of furniture, footwear and pearls.

Information about the Holiday House in Manacor, East Mallorca

Manacor has a number of noteworthy buildings, situated in the town centre known as “Ses Dames”: the Torre de ses Puntes, the only remains of the residence of the Kings of Mallorca, the convent of Sant Vicenç, the Town Hall cloisters and the Neo-Gothic Mare de Déu dels Dolors church, from the 19th century, with an almost disproportionately tall spire, visible from a great distance. It is the Archaeological Museum however that attracts most attention. The building in which it is housed is a fortified house, a good example of stately rural architecture. Legend has it that the Manacor Inquisition had its headquarters here. Its popular name is the Torre dels Enagistes, (the Ignacists Tower) after Ignacio de Loyola.

Remains of the Talayotic culture, some yet to be excavated by the archaeologists, are to be found all over the municipal area. More than for its monuments or its beaches, Manacor is famous for its spectacular caves of Drac, where the film director Berlanga filmed one of the most famous scenes from his powerful film El verdugo, and for the production of artificial pearls, an industry which dates back to 1900.

Also recommended in this municipality are a visit to the Archaeological Museum and a stroll along some of the isolated and unspoilt beaches.
