Information about the Guest House in Aragon, Spain
History of the building: Its 1.200 constructed meters (wine cellars and garden are not counted) gives us ideas about the former use of this construction. From two mudéjar houses (from the 14th and 15th centuries with a rear farmyard from which complete structures, interior arches a complete lounge, and a single designed main door were disappeared) a reform was started in the 16th century when the first part of the staircase and a rediscovered SOLANAR was built, with characteristics clearly well-combined in that time and conserving its unity as an architectonic piece. At the end of the 17th century and the beginnings of the 18th was realized the last important reform. Thanks to it, the house has rooms and bedrooms overlooking to the street and the final design of the case of the staircase. Also in that time was designed the final look of the facades which nowadays is only partially conserved.
Intervention on the building: The intervention tried to collect all the contributions of the history, rediscovering the primitive spaces and showing the original elements "in situ", respecting the constructive techniques and the original materials. All the roofs are the originals (restored), in the main part of the centuries 16th-17th , based in beams and plaster cast. The cobbled paving on the ground floor and the plaster paving on the noble floor are conserved in the original condition, filling the holes with the original material. In the zones where the original paving could not be recovered owing to the reforms, there are conventional solutions as dais, platform or ceramics. The new contributions follow a very flexible criterion, from the affinity and mimesis in some cases, contrasting with the new design and contemporary solutions. To sum it up we realized a project where the most important aim was respect and valorize the existing architecture.
