Holiday house in Ugijar, Sierra Nevada, Andalusia - tastefully refurbished house set in traditional spanish village in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada national park. The house has classic Alpujarran tiled floors with antique wooden windows and doors with fully fitted kitchens. The property is light and airey with patio and roof terrace (with shower) giving stunning panoramic views for 30 kilometres down to the Mediterranean. Ideal spot for relaxation, a walkers paradise with olive groves, fig, almond trees in an area of natural beauty. Services include gas hob, electric oven, fridge, microwave, toaster, hob kettle, washing machine.
The house has both basement and ground floor areas, each of which is fully furnished. Both come with fully fitted kitchen units with marble tops, double and twin bedrooms and generous size bathrooms with shower attachments. Each lounge room has its own dining table and 4 chairs with separate patio chairs also. The upper floor room has a balcony and roof terrace (including shower) with spectacular views to the coast whilst the basement has a covered patio with equally outstanding views. The village property is heated with wood burning stoves(if required).

The local towns of Laroles and Ugijar have bars, restaurants and supermarkets, with the bars offering traditional 'tapas' when ordering alcoholic drinks. The village also has a local shop near the church with locally made bread available from from the village hall each morning. Fish deliveries are also made twice a week.

Holiday in Ugijar: The nearest towns Ugijar (15 mins drive) and Laroles (10 mins) both provide swimming facilities. Orange, lemon, almond, fig and almond trees are in abundance where traditional Spanish life still flourishes. There is a mountain pass called La Ragwa (7000 ft) only 20 minutes drive with fabulous views on both sides with a restaurant and picnic areas, a day out not to be missed. The pass leads down to a motorway link with the town of Quadix, famous for its pottery, (1hours journey) certainly worth a visit. The historic city of Granada with its Alhambra palace lies on the same motorway link (1 1/2hours) is a day trip, a must in your itinerary, where traditional crafts still go on.
Skiing in Sierra Nevada: During winter months there are possibilities for skiing, sledging and cross country skiing in the mountain area behind the property (25 mins to the nearest peak-La Ragua). Ski's and sledges are available to hire from the restaurant area. A journey of 1 1/2 hours takes you to the excellent winter ski centre of Granada with its own ski village and is excellent for all including beginners.
The local airports: are Almeria and Granada (1 1/4 and 1 1/2 hours respectively) with Malaga approximately 3 hours drive. Of late, a service by Ryanair from Liverpool to Granada is offering great prices and is well worth looking at. Prices from £9.99 one way.
