Douro valley: The Douro is a valley, a river, a vineyard, it is wine. Over the river, the human influence, who transformed the slate mountains into country and walls, an epic common effort of making different cultures meet. Protected from the damp Atlantic hoists by the mountains of Marão and Montemuro, the production area was defined as wine area for the first time in 1757 - the first viticulture regulation of the world - in the northeast of Portugal, between Barqueiros and Mazouco, near the Spanish border. This is the wine country!

The town of Marco de Canavezes: Standing in one of the most fertile areas of the Douro region, Marco de Canavezes has acquired great importance as a centre of agricultural production, particularly wine and chestnuts, and all over the surrounding mountains are traces of its settlement throughout several millennia.

Baiao: This is a very ancient territory taking its name from the Christian warrior D. Arnaldo de Bayan or Bayão, who conquered the region from the Moors in the tenth century. The countryside´s distinctive features are influenced by the River Douro and scattered about the landscape are a number of small chapels, manor houses and large estates. Magnificent views of the surrounding landscape can be appreciated from the Alto do Baião.
