Holiday House in Costa Verde, Northern Portugal:
Casa do Rio is located in extensive private grounds in Amares, between Braga and the Natural Park of Peneda-Gerês. Located 500 m from the village, the traditional stone house is build on the bank of the Homem river. Guests can enjoy bathing in the property’s fluvial private beach. Fishing is also possible (mostly trout), even from the balcony over the river. In the rear of the house you find some green spaces and waterfalls.
In the gardens with a quantity of trees, you have a natural swimming pool supplied by water coming directly from the river which exits through a waterfall.
Furnished with good taste, the house has been renovated keeping its original architecture and consists of 5 double bedrooms, living room, 2 bathrooms, fully equipped kitchen, balcony over the river, terrace, garden with BBQ and private swimming pool.
There are bicycles and canoes for up to 3 persons.

Amares: Amares is a town belonging to the Braga district, old Minho province, inhabited by about 17 000 people distributed amongst 24 communes. It is a rural municipality, partially included in the first protected area in Portugal, the National Park of Peneda-Gerês. Some eco-tourism is starting to develop all over the park, and the municipality of Amares is no exception.
National Park Peneda-Gerês: This was the first protected area to be founded in Portugal in 1971 and it is the only national park in the country. Having once been the home of the brown bear and the mountain goat, Peneda-Gerês is today one of the last refuges of the great predators, such as the wolf and the royal eagle. Peneda-Gerês is of particular note because it is the only National Park in existence in Portugal. Founded in 1971, it covers an area of 72,000 hectares and has an extraordinary diversity of climate, envirorunents and scenery, comprising the transition zone between the Mediterranean and Euro-Siberian regions
Because of this, flora and fauna are found that are rare or non existent in other parts of the country.
The varied climatic influences occasionally result in unexpected flora, with examples being the cork oak and the British oak. In the higher zones you can find areas that are always flooded, where the carnivorous plants, most particularly the "Orvalhinha", are a constant feature.
