Information about the Holiday House in Madeira, Portugal
Ponta Delgada: Ponta Delgada civil parish was described by the Portuguese writer Agostina Bessa Luís as the «Corte do Norte» (Court of the North), because of the level of cultural sophistication and nobility of its population. It seems the promontory upon which it is situated will try to detach itself from the island and float away into the ocean. In fact, the land, the birthplace of the departed Madeiran writer Horácio Bento de Gouveia, is made up of a large fajã (a landfall at the base of a cliff, forming an area of reasonably flat land), and an upper level plateau called lombadas (brows), comprising the 1st, 2nd and 3rd lombadas. Agostina also described the beauty, the climate and the hospitable population of this village.
Holiday on Madeira Island: Let yourself succumb to the charms of Madeira. It is not difficult. First, there's the island's exceptional climate, with its mild temperatures all year round (between 16ºC and 25ºC) and its exuberant natural features and tropical vegetation, in which flowers and fruit have been turned into a genuine cult. Then there's its rich historical heritage and luxury hotels - attractions enough to satisfy even the most demanding of tourists.
Come and sample this feast of breathtaking beauty: sheer cliffs overlooking the sea, natural swimming-pools carved out of the rocks, high mountains swathed in mist, narrow footpaths running alongside the «levadas» or irrigation channels, offering the visitor the possibility of countryside walks in the midst of the most extraordinary landscape.
