Location of Burgundy
|
|
Burgundy is situated in the mid eastern section of France, located just southwest of Paris,
encompassing the departements of Cote d'Or and its capital, Dijon, Saone et Loire, Nieve and Yonne. |
Climate of Burgundy
|
|
Burgundy is dominated by the variations of western weather that characterise the whole of
Western Europe. In winter, there are frequent spells of fine, cold weather. In the summer,
it is hot with a few welcome showers. Autumn (grape harvests obligent!) is generally a pleasant,
sunny season, probably one of our most beautiful times, in which the colours of nature blend
harmoniously with the gentle blue of the sky. The first stirrings of the Mediterranean climate
can already be felt in Saone et Loire. The Morvan is a typical mountainous area from 600 metres up. |
Best Time to Travel to Burgundy
|
|
Perhaps the best time of the year to visit Burgundy is autumn. The vines are colored orange
and green, and the weather is mild and breezy. Castles rising from vineyards and medieval
churches mark the landscape of Burgundy, the land of the good life for those who savor fine
cuisine and wines in historic surroundings since Roman times. |

cities of Dijon and Beaune, the radiant past of such châteaux as Bazoches, Tanlay, Bussy-Rabutin
and Cormatin. |
Events in Burgundy

The festival spirit is an essential ingredient of the "art and pleasure of living" for which
Burgundy is renowned : grand feasts of the wine-growing calendar or the simple good fellowship of
countless village fêtes; music from all periods performed in majestic or intimate settings; tales
from history and legend related by the Burgundians themselves in enchanting son et lumière spectacles.
From the "Saint-Vincent Tournante" wine festival in January to the living cribs of midnight
mass at Christmas, there is always something happening in Burgundy! Dijon is justly proud of its
Wine and Folklore Festival of Baroque Music as well as the Cinema Festival. As winter
draws to a close, Chalon-sur-Saone stages France's second largest carnival and a few months later,
in the heat of summer, the Chalon dans la Rue street festival. Nevers can point to its
