Description of the Cottage in Port Appin, Argyll & Stirling
Cottage in Port Appin, Argyll & Stirling:
Ardtur Cottages are stone-built in the traditional style of the 1840s, and are interestingly converted from the original stable block belonging to Ardtur House. The cottages are at the end of a private drive, about half a mile from the public road, 100 yards from Ardtur house and a little further from the farm. A gravel and grass yard outside allows plenty of room for parking and for sitting in the sun, away from all traffic. The cottages are old-fashioned, quiet and rural, ideal for a 'get-away-from-it-all' family holiday. Ardtur Bank Cottage: Downstairs - Hall, living room with kitchen area, double bedroom, bathroom with WC. Upstairs - Two twin-bedded attic rooms. Steep stairs to attic. Small grate available for open fire plus large coal-effect electric fire in living room, electric cooker and fridge in kitchen area. Immersion heater for hot water. Crockery, cutlery, kitchen utensils, microwave, electric kettle and toaster. 4 electric convector heaters and 1 vacuum cleaner. Colour television. Double beds are 4'6", single beds 3' and all are supplied with duvets, pillows, blankets and bedcovers but not linen. Please bring sheets, duvets covers, towels and drying up cloths with you. A shared laundry area with washing machine and drier (coin-operated) is available in the lean-to-building adjacent to Cottage 2. There is also a coin operated telephone box in this building. A clothes line in the yard is shared by both cottages. Electricity is charged at the current cost

Holiday in Port Appin: Port Appin is on the shore of Loch Linnhe approximately half way between Oban and Fort William, about ninety miles from Glasgow. It is in the centre of some of Britain's finest scenery, with Glencoe and Ben Nevis within easy reach, and via Oban and Fort William Mull, Iona and the Inner Hebrides are accessible. A passenger ferry runs from Port Appin every two hours to the beautiful island of Lismore, ideal for exploration on bicycles, which can be hired in the village or on the island. Lismore has several ruined castles and the remains of a Pictish broch.
Surrounded by great natural beauty: Boats and windsurfers are available for hire at Linnhe Marine, situated two miles north of Appin. There is also a pony-trekking centre at Lettershuna, north of Appin. Ardtur cottages are situated in the middle of Ardtur peninsula, which comprises about 150 acres of fields and wooded hills. The view from the large yard outside the cottages encompasses Loch Linnhe and Castle Stalker on its rocky islet, with the dramatic hills of Morvern about 5 miles across the loch. The cottages stand sideways to the loch between Ardtur House and the Farm House, not far from Field Cottage which belongs to the farm. This group of five houses are the only dwellings on the farm, which has both wild areas and low-lying fields of great natural beauty.
