Local attractions: With the coast under an hour away, stretching from the beautiful Gironde Estuary in the south, up towards Royan and on to La Rochelle, a lively and bustling resort, with a particularly picturesque harbour where you will find many shops and excellent restaurants to visit. There is something for all ages. The larger towns of Saintes and Angouleme (TGV link), are just a short drive away, with airports at Bordeaux, La Rochelle and Poitiers, and mainline station in Cognac. You will be ideally and centrally located. There is also the possibility of arranging transport to and from local airports. The French are extremely proud of their production of the local 'amber nectar', and will happily show you round their cognac distilleries, with 'degustation' afterwards, and the opportunity to discuss and perhaps to purchase direct. If wine is more to your taste, the regions of Bordeaux, St Emilion and the Medoc are all very close, and again many producers are pleased to discuss their products.
No worry whose turn it is to drive home on the 'wrong side': What could be more pleasant than a fantastic French meal, a good bottle of wine, and then a short stroll on a warm summer's evening back to your romantic home from home?
